Don’t Waste the Pretty…

These are words to live by… and I’m certain that every woman has felt this way. Let me explain…

The other day I was getting ready for work and I put together a fabulous outfit, it was perfect. The kind of outfit that you want to be seen in-you NEED to be seen in. I had on a black blouse that you tie a pretty floppy bow in the front- I bought it at a vintage shop in San Francisco and had been dying to wear it. Paired with my new skirt that had navy blue, purple and black plaid and black tights it was the epitome of chic.

Of course I didn’t see anyone, I was isolated in my cubicle all day with my great outfit and no one around to talk fashion and truly appreciate it. On my way home I call Alison and I’m venting to her about how I had put so much effort into this outfit and had no where to go and was hardly seen in it! She found it amusing but seriously knew exactly how I felt and said… “yeah, you don’t want to waste the pretty”.

I thought it was hilarious and asked her to elaborate. So, she explained…women only have so many years of “the pretty” meaning getting to dress however we want and looking youthful before our age starts catching up with us and we have to worry about wrinkles and just getting old (aka becoming cougars). Men don’t have to deal with this at all- but we have to be careful not to “waste the pretty”! I couldn’t stop laughing–this was brilliant!

These were comical words of wisdom to me. After this conversation I’m sure that next time I put that much effort into my ensemble I’ll be determined to find something to do or somewhere to go. I don’t care where where it is, as long as I’m seen! Alison is right- I don’t want to waste the pretty.  🙂

Ode To My Uggs

I know, I know…. Uggs are so 2004– I’ve just happened  to form some sort of emotional attachment to mine. I still have the same first pair!

I distinctly remember the day I stopped wearing them out to social functions- I was in the middle of an outfit crisis sometime last year and i decided to go with the “comfy” look. I put them on, I’m ready to walk out and Aaron (the bf) says “aren’t those boots out of style?”.  At first I felt a tinge of anger… the need to defend UGGs, who was he? and what made him think he knew more about fashion than me?? Deep down I knew… I knew the UGG phenomenon had come and gone and I needed to let go.

Needless to say I can’t imagine wearing them out to any social outings but I still wear them around the house when my feet get cold, for my Starbucks coffee runs and to walk HB.

I know they are outdated but I can’t help it! I still LOVE my UGGs… always will.  🙂

Recessionistas Rejoice!

I’d say for  the most part this recession has taken a toll on most of our fashion budgets–thankfully the latest fashion trend has been for chic designers to collaborate with mainstream corporations such as Wal-Mart, Target and Kohls.

I know some of us may still have the mentality that fashion and these corporations aren’t exactly a good match. However, in these tough economic times designers are thinking outside the box and so should we! Max Azria and Miley Cyrus have teamed up for Wal-Mart where you can find a pair of liquid leggings (a must-have item) for $9.99. Kohls has Vera Wang and the collaboration I’m most looking forward to is Rodarte for Target- a 55 piece collection that won’t be out until late December, but still in time to buy yourself a little something to put under the tree. 😉

*Thanks to Sarah Howroyd for a brilliant topic!
