YSL Lips

Recently obsessed with the new YSL lip gloss stain. Yes… It’s a gloss AND a stain. Be sure to apply with caution because this fabulous concoction lasts all day. The bright shades are right on trend for spring. The brighter, the better! Number 9 is my fav.
Happy Shopping!

Goth to Glam

Winter is finally here…(not so much Tampa but everywhere else)  and with a new season comes new make-up! Or at least the need to revamp your old make-up.

A quick and inexpensive way to turn your brighter shades to winter shades is to add a little “goth” to it. Yes, I mean black. Candice discovered an amazing make-up line called Illamasqua: “Make-up for your alter ego”. The web-site is fabulous and their make-up is amazing. Lucky for us they also sell Illamasqua at Sephora (my heaven) which is where Candice found her new matte, black shade ($22).

First you apply the black matte color as your base, then add a brighter red to it and you’ve just created a new “vampy” lip color! If you like a little shine, simply add gloss.

Embrace your inner make-up artist and experiment with all your brighter shades…thanks Candice- brilliant idea.

Sock Couture

We’ve seen the “sock trend” all over the runways- my favorite: Marc Jacobs (of course). It started with the Spring/Summer shows and is now a full-blown “trend to try” this fall according to InStyle Magazine. Don’t  be alarmed, I’m not talking about the Madonna lime-green socks with pumps we saw in the “Borderline” video (although I’m not knocking it-she can do no wrong). I mean subtle, neutral shades- the key is to keep it simple.

I had no desire to try this trend- that was until Kate told me what she was wearing today… socks with heels! A black pencil skirt and a gray top. My first thought was a little panic and I quickly responded “what!?” and made her send me a photo. I absolutely LOVED it. Kate has the ability to take a risky runway look like this one and flawlessly translate it to a “real-life” look. I totally admire her daring fashion sense- I’ll be wearing socks with my heels this week!

Would you rock the sock trend?

Levi’s Button Fly Jeans- Old School Style

Had to share my recent find at Urban Outfitters– ON SALE, might I add, for $20…. My Levi’s– old school button fly jean shorts. I don’t know what’s up with me and the early 90’s/80’s era but I love these. I dressed them up for a night out with a black silky BCBG top and a bright MK bag. Thoughts??

Estee Lauder’s Social Media Makeover

Estee Lauder is offering a free makeover and head shot for your social media site, blog or website! How cool is that? Call your local department store to confirm their Estee Lauder cosmetics counter is participating and not only do you get a makeover but they give you a sample of the foundation they used as well.(Love samples)

They do your free makeover, take your photo and email you a copy for your social media site. I’m pretty sure it will be with an “Estee Lauder” backdrop (or step and repeat) which is still awesome because then it just looks like you went to an event. 🙂

I’m totally taking advantage of this! Pic will be posted as soon as I can get to the mall.

“Greige” Is The Word

I was chatting with Sarah earlier and of course the conversation turned to fashion and the latest trends, she had just finished up ordering the latest Chanel “it” color- also known as “greige” or Particuliere.

So… following our conversation she text me the information and as soon as I got home I did some research and ordered myself a little bottle. This color is everywhere-including our favorite celebs on the red carpet and even my fav-Sandra Bullock, rocked the “greige” while accepting her award at the Golden Globes.

There’s a great OPI alternative-which I’ve actually worn and love (Kate has it already)- it’s called “You Don’t Know Jacques”. You can barely tell the difference between the two shades– so why did I opt for the Chanel? For the free samples you receive when you order through chanel.com. 🙂

Let me know if you find any other Spring colors we absolutely NEED to purchase… I’ve seen that pastels are really “in” too.

Tangerine Lips

Ok… so I was flipping through the glossy pages of Marie Claire and I saw the make- up from Prada’s Spring 2010 runway show and I fell in love with orange. Who knew tangerine lips could look so cool! At first I was skeptical too… not sure how it would translate to the “real world” but I went to Sephora and got their newest poppy/tangerine shade (it’s called “It Girl 06“) and while most would say it’s a bit much, don’t knock it ’til you try it.  From the Prada runway to real-life… See! It translates well. 🙂

Scent of A Woman

Just like our wardrobes with each season our scent should vary as well. The winter-time crisp, cool air allows us to be a bit more bold in choosing our perfumes. Think about it… mid-summer, with the humidity level at it’s highest, the last thing we want to do is suffocate ourselves with a strong scent-which is why we usually opt for lighter, floral scents. However, come winter time just as we begin to layer our clothes, add the tights and accessorize with scarfs (or snoods), our scents should coincide and become a bit stronger as well.

I’ve been to the best place on earth (Sephora) and I sniffed around to find the best winter scent for me- I simply could not decide. Instead  I found something amazing… A fragrance sampler for everyone to test out and determine their own “signature scent”. Enjoy!

*The fragrance sampler shown here from Sephora includes: Aquolina-Pink Sugar, Donna Karan-Cashmere Mist, Juicy Couture-Viva la Juicy, Prada-Infusion D’Iris, Dior-Addict 2, Emilio Pucci-Vivara Variazioni Acqua 33,Kenzo- Kenzo Flower, Stella McCartney-Stella Nude, Dolce & Gabbana-Light Blue, Harajuku-Lovers G, Michael Kors-Very Hollywood, and Versace-Bright Crystal

Latest Beauty Trend: Hot Lips- Bright Colors

I admit– when it comes to make-up I tend to play it safe. I’m not one to experiment with daring eye shadows,  but what I do tend to gravitate towards are bright, candy-colored lips! I LOVE this look and while I know it may not work for everyone I will share my technique and perhaps you can play with different lip colors and make it your own.

First you need to start with a perfect canvas- in this case foundation or powder. I waited three long weeks for Sephora to get their shipment in with the new line of Bare Escentuals matte foundation in ‘tan’, and it was worth the wait… This matte powder is perfect for the Florida heat. While I sometimes like that “glow” or “dewy” look, in this heat it can easily be mistaken for sweat. With this matte powder, that will never be an issue. Having the basic part of my make-up regiment under control (my canvas) my next step is the eyes… I prefer a shimmery beige to highlight the eyes and brighten them up. Since I love the bright lip look, I keep the eyes simple with a light eyeshadow and use Chanel’s liquid eye liner on the top only! (keep it simple!) I finish the look with my ‘Diorshow’ mascara and the eyes are done… The last- and most important part- are the lips, I love a classic red shade or even a bright plum. Definitely keep in mind your outfit when choosing your bright lip color. Your lip color should vary according to your skin tone but I definitely recommend testing different shades you wouldn’t normally try, you’d be surprised how fabulous it will look! (Don’t be afraid)

The key to this look is to keep the eyes classic and simple. The main focus should be on the lips. It’s a fabulous look year-round and the perfect way to transform your make-up from day-to-night!

Even when wearing minimal make-up, a t-shirt and jeans; adding a pop of color on your lips instantly changes your overall appearance and makes you look chic. The best part– it takes two seconds to apply…

*My next Sephora purchase will be a new fuchsia  lipstick by Dior, I’ve been eying it  all week…

Oscar Blandi is my favorite!

If anyone has been fortunate enough to have discovered ‘dry shampoo’ years ago–consider yourself lucky. Maybe I just missed the memo but since I discovered Oscar Blandi’s ‘dry shampoo’ powder, I can’t stop using it or talking about it!! I carry the ‘travel size’ bottle in my bag and I have been known to demonstrate how it magically gives my hair volume during various types of social gatherings. I’m not sure that it’s appropriate- but I just want to share it with every one I meet!

Since I was introduced to Oscar I have shaved at least 30 minutes from my morning prep-time! That is precious sleeping time and anyone that is not a morning person will surely benefit from a little Oscar. It absorbs the excess oil so that you don’t need to wash your hair everyday (because that’s bad for your hair anyway).

I find that my hair usually looks best the second or even the third day after washing it-as long as I use Oscar. I prefer the powder because when you use the spray it wets your hair and you have to wait until it dries to “fluff” or style-which just takes way too long for my liking.

* I always get mine at Sephora

Oscar
