’70’s Chic

It’s clear the ’70s are back. This includes high-waist denim, wide-leg pants, peasant blouses and even disco glam on everything from make-up trends to sparkly tops.

My favorite part of this spring ’70s fashion movement are the flared high- waisted jeans. I’m subscribed to whowhatwear.com (you should be too) and ever since I received “Go Buy Now: ’70’s-Style Jeans” email alert I have been obsessing over purchasing a new pair of jeans. I have a certain dilemma with being 7 months pregnant but for those who have the ability to wear a nice pair of fitted, high-waisted jeans go buy a pair now!!

They look fabulous paired with a structured or flowy button-down tucked in. If you leave it un-tucked it looks sloppy- so please don’t. Be sure to find the proper length too! The hem should not touch the ground or cover all of your shoe, that just looks weird….

This is one of the most popular denim styles right now so it should be fairly easy to find your perfect pair. I recommend starting somewhere like Nordstrom where you’ll have a variety of brands, styles and washes to choose from. Let me know how it goes!

Happy Shopping. 🙂

JewelMint Line- Sign Me Up!

I keep reading about Kate Bosworth and Cher Coulter’s  new jewelry line,  JewelMint and I had to check it out for myself.  Kate Bosworth has teamed up with friend and Celebrity Stylist Cher Coulter to design each and every piece of jewelry in their collection and it’s sold exclusively online. Here’s how to join JewelMint:

First you start out by taking a personal style quiz which consists of fashion images and you click on which one best suits your style and personality. This generates your ‘personal showroom’ where you will find the pieces of jewelry selected for you based on your style quiz. For $29.99 a month (that includes shipping) you pick out one  piece of jewelry from your showroom and it’s mailed to you. You don’t need to purchase something every single month if you don’t want to… they don’t  automatically charge you a monthly fee, it’s only if you make a purchase.

It’s a neat website, good to have because everything on the website is 70% off retail cost so you get a major discount and there’s no pressure to buy each month! I’m joining… I fell in love with these oyster earrings. (They know exactly what I like) 😉

William Rast for Target!

Yes, it’s true! William Rast, aka Justin Timberlake’s fashion line with childhood friend Trace Ayala, will be collaborating with Target and bringing us affordable high-end fashion just in time for the Holidays.

The William Rast for Target line will reflect the theme for the their fall/winter 2010 collections, which JT describes as “biker bohemia”. Among some of the pieces that I saw in this months InStyle magazine was a gorgeous tan motorcycle jacket, an awesome tuxedo jacket and a must-have plaid button down.

Lastly, JT swears they left the fit of their highly coveted jeans exactly the same… the best part is you can purchase them at Target for $50!

The William Rast for Target collection will be available Dec. 19 at Target stores and target.com. Happy Shopping!

Fall Combat Boots

Found ’em! My go-to boots for this fall. I’ve already started wearing them (even though it’s still about 90 degrees out- I just couldn’t help it). This fall I needed a comfy pair of boots to wear after work or on my days off. I was looking for casual- yet cool and I kept seeing these awesome combat boots everywhere. They have this ‘rugged’, ‘rock n roll’ look yet manage to polish my low-maintenance every day look (v-necks/button downs and leggings).

I popped into Nordstrom the other day and they were on sale- it was clearly a sign that I needed to purchase them… so I did and I love, love, love them. Happy shopping!

Black and Tan

Who says I can’t wear black and brown together? I do it all the time! You have to be sure to mix black with lighter to medium shades of brown- think: tan.. cognac…or rich browns. That way the contrast is more severe. Stay away from mixing a dark brown and black, not only is it ugly but that’s probably how the “no black and brown rule” was established. 😉

Notice the shoes too!

Sock Couture

We’ve seen the “sock trend” all over the runways- my favorite: Marc Jacobs (of course). It started with the Spring/Summer shows and is now a full-blown “trend to try” this fall according to InStyle Magazine. Don’t  be alarmed, I’m not talking about the Madonna lime-green socks with pumps we saw in the “Borderline” video (although I’m not knocking it-she can do no wrong). I mean subtle, neutral shades- the key is to keep it simple.

I had no desire to try this trend- that was until Kate told me what she was wearing today… socks with heels! A black pencil skirt and a gray top. My first thought was a little panic and I quickly responded “what!?” and made her send me a photo. I absolutely LOVED it. Kate has the ability to take a risky runway look like this one and flawlessly translate it to a “real-life” look. I totally admire her daring fashion sense- I’ll be wearing socks with my heels this week!

Would you rock the sock trend?

Forecast: Rainy and In Need of Wellies!

It’s Summertime in Florida, and that means thunderstorms on a daily basis. A bit of an inconvenience when you want to wear open-toed shoes to work- not to mention a damper on any type of hairstyle. So while I sit here waiting for the “Severe Thunderstorm Watch” to pass on through I thought to myself; what a perfect reason to buy a new pair of rain boots! I’ll definitely use them for at least two months out of the year, and IF I move back up north it will be perfect for the cold and snowy winters… clearly it’s an investment.

My first pick: Hunters “Original Short Rain Boot” which can be found at Nordstrom’s (best department store EVER)- they’re a little pricey at $115 but like I said- it’s an investment.

Second pick and only because it’s impossible for me to find: Marc by Marc Jacobs rain boot for $28!!!!! Can be found in the “Special Items” section in- stores only. (The closest one to me is in Savannah, any other ones I’ve found online are double the price and not the color I want–totally bummed) Good for you if there’s a Marc Jacobs store near you.

Third pick and reasonably priced: “Beans Wellies” in Navy from L.L. Bean for $59.

So…. the moral of the story is if I have to weather these torrential downpours I may as well do it fashionably- A la Nicole Richie.

The Cat’s Meoww…

I was first intrigued by the  cat-eye trend when I spotted a pair from Dries Van Noten by Linda Farrow in a Marie Claire magazine a couple months back- I went online looking for them and of course they were sold out everywhere (even Ebay). So I gave up on the search and the whole cat-eye thing–and now I see cat-eye sunglasses everywhere! I desperately need a pair.

The cat-eye trend was all over the runways for the Spring/Summer collections and it seems like every designer has their own version of this classic trend- I mean Tom Ford… Jason Wu… Derek Lam etc, etc, etc… and one of my favorites (and reasonably priced) are the DVF cat-eye sunglasses at Saks for only $145! (Compared to the rest, that’s nothing).

Thoughts???

Levi’s Button Fly Jeans- Old School Style

Had to share my recent find at Urban Outfitters– ON SALE, might I add, for $20…. My Levi’s– old school button fly jean shorts. I don’t know what’s up with me and the early 90’s/80’s era but I love these. I dressed them up for a night out with a black silky BCBG top and a bright MK bag. Thoughts??

Estee Lauder’s Social Media Makeover

Estee Lauder is offering a free makeover and head shot for your social media site, blog or website! How cool is that? Call your local department store to confirm their Estee Lauder cosmetics counter is participating and not only do you get a makeover but they give you a sample of the foundation they used as well.(Love samples)

They do your free makeover, take your photo and email you a copy for your social media site. I’m pretty sure it will be with an “Estee Lauder” backdrop (or step and repeat) which is still awesome because then it just looks like you went to an event. 🙂

I’m totally taking advantage of this! Pic will be posted as soon as I can get to the mall.
